fan_flashworks over on dreamwidth."Fumi!" Mitsumi huffs through her nose, "how is everyone?"
The other line remains silent instead of Fumi’s typical greeting echoing back. For a few seconds Mitsumi wonders if she accidentally got sent to voicemail before a hesitant voice responds.
"Mitsumi-chan...?"
"Kurume-san!" Mitsumi's voice turns shrill before she wrangles it down to something close to her normal tone, "Oh gosh, I'm so sorry! I must have clicked on something weird!"
Actually, now that Mitsumi was forced to think about it, she's gotten pretty used to Fumi practically always being on the top of her recent calls list. Her family's phone occasionally being there is the only thing that disturbs that. Muscle memory must have taken over.
Not that she's going to admit that, that's embarrassing.
Oh well, this is a good opportunity to get to know her new friend, no? Accidental or not.
"Um, anyways, sorry again, but since you’re here, I want to ask, how was your day?"
The phone line is silent for a moment, long enough for her hands to begin to get a bit sweaty. Eventually, Kurume does respond back.
"It was alright. Just a standard day." And then after an audible pause. "How was yours?"
"It was great! Oh! You'll never guess what I found today!" Mitsumi says before launching into a story of her most recent adventure.
In a not so distant apartment, Kurume settles down into her desk chair. Well, this isn't the worst way to end her day.
